Inside Business: Sabin couple to reopen general store
SABIN, Minn. — The Old Highway 52 General Store in Sabin, which recently closed, will reopen soon, though it will be under a slightly different name.
Until recently, Old Highway 52 was operated by the Mac's chain of hardware stores, which leased the property from a local owner.
Mac's closed the store earlier this month, stating it was taking the step to concentrate on its core business of running hardware stores.
That got the attention of Matt and Shana Sharp, who moved their family to Sabin nearly two years ago and who have since developed a fondness for the community and the general store.
The couple talked things over with the property's owner and the parties agreed on a lease arrangement under which the Sharps will reopen the store under the name Sabin General Store on Old 52.
The lease takes effect Tuesday, but according to Matt Sharp it will take some time to get things in order.
He said they hope to open Friday morning, but added, "Opening day is kind of fluid right now."
Sharp said they plan to carry products similar to what the general store offered in the past, but also expand offerings a bit to include things like grab-and-go breakfast items.
