Two ND CHS co-ops merge
KINDRED, N.D. — The respective producer boards of CHS Dakota Ag Cooperative, based in Kindred, and CHS Dakota Plains Cooperative, based in Valley City, have voted to merge into a single business called CHS Dakota Plains Ag.
The two groups, which are part of CHS Inc., a global agribusiness owned by farmers, ranchers and cooperatives across the United States, will begin operating as CHS Dakota Plains Ag in early October.
Meanwhile, construction continues on a 196-acre CHS campus near Gwinner that will include a grain shuttle loading facility as well as a 27,000-ton dry fertilizer plant.
Collectively, CHS Dakota Ag and CHS Dakota Plains serve farmers across 13 counties in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota.
Fargo-based MODE receives SCORE award
FARGO — MODE, an outlet store that started here and has since expanded to several U.S. cities, has won the SCORE Foundation's Outstanding Franchise Small Business Award. MODE is owned by Ciara Stockeland.
MODE was one of 10 small businesses across the country that received a SCORE award. The awards will be presented at a gala Thursday in Washington, D.C.
Since 2011, the MODE franchise has grown from one location to 11 across the Midwest and in South Carolina. The Fargo store is at 4302 13th Ave. S., Suite 13.
Entrants were asked to submit a "Business Selfie" and share ways small businesses have made the world a better place and how meaningful relationships between SCORE mentors and clients have helped businesses prosper.

FargoConnect conference set for Tuesday
FARGO — The second annual FargoConnect conference, which focuses on marketing communication and technology, will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Avalon West event center in Fargo.
Flint Group is hosting the conference, which is expected to draw about 500 people and feature a lineup of speakers representing national and local success stories.
Speakers will include Marcus Sheridan, who grew a small swimming pool installation business into one of the largest companies of its kind in the U.S., and Daniel Lemin, senior strategist at the consulting firm Convince & Convert.
A keynote presentation from Ajit Pai, commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, will explore the government's role in regulating the Internet and what it means for business.
The event is open to the public, but it is expected to sell out, so advance registration is encouraged. Tickets are priced at $115 per person. A special student rate of $20 is available for the first 100 students who register. Registration information is available at fargoconnect.com.
OXO fall showcase at Creative Kitchen
FARGO—Creative Kitchen at West Acres in Fargo will host an OXO Good Grips Fall Showcase Saturday. Customers can enter drawings, meet with OXO representative Tim Shea, see demonstrations and try out new gadgets.
