District Waterhouse closes, but new restaurant expected to take its place
WEST FARGO — A restaurant and bar here has closed after less than a year, but the building's owner says a new eatery could soon take over the space.
The District Waterhouse and Kitchen, which opened in May at 3179 Bluestem Drive, closed early last week, according to building owner Joel Wold.
A Feb. 8 post by District owner and president Tina Berger on the restaurant's Facebook page thanked customers for their support. She cited "chronic health issues" as a factor in her decision to transition the business to a new owner.
Wold, who also owns the Bottle Barn Liquors store connected to the space, said he's negotiating with multiple prospective tenants who could take over and open a new restaurant and bar there.
While he expects the new venture would still focus on offering lunches, dinners and cocktails, the business would likely have a new name. He'd also like the next restaurant to be all-ages instead of only open to customers 21 and older.
"I think I'm going to require that myself as the owner of the building just to help business there, and business was pretty good before, too," he said. "It would've been better if it was all-ages."
There's no firm timeline of when the space will reopen, but Wold said he hopes a new tenant will be there within a month or two, if possible.
