MOORHEAD—The new business that took over the former Atomic Coffee space in south Moorhead isn't serving up lattes, but there is plenty to drink—at least for those hankering for craft beer or wine.

The Frothy Stache, which opened at 805 30th Ave. S. last month, now serves up craft brews and select wines as well as light snacks seven days a week.

The business, owned by the same group as the nearby O'Leary's Pub and liquor store, is one of the newest players in the community's burgeoning craft beer scene that's seen several new breweries announce plans to open taprooms of their own.

A similar business concept is moving forward toward opening in downtown Fargo, perhaps as early as this fall.

Front Street Taproom got conditional approval of its liquor license request at the Wednesday, July 20, Fargo Liquor Control Committee meeting. Owners Aaron and Lindsey Templin still need to get formal approval from the City Commission before they could open on the main floor of the former One World building at 614 Main Ave.

Moorhead option

Anthony Lamb, one of the bartenders at The Frothy Stache, said the business has plans for future growth, including adding more locally brewed craft beer to its 18 taps, expanding the wine selection and adding regular events, such as live music on Fridays.

The taproom recently started hosting trivia nights on Thursdays and could expand its snack options to a small food menu, too.

But new events and expanded selection might have to wait—for now, the business is located in the midst of major road construction on Eighth Street South, making it more complicated to get to the parking lot.

Still, Lamb said regulars and new patrons are starting to discover the taproom, and customers seem to appreciate the variety of beers that aren't on tap at the standard pub or bar in town.

"It's a very diverse crowd but it's very relaxed," he said. "The thing that's nice about the size is even when it's packed, it's never crazy loud in here."

The location, which briefly housed Craic Caife & Deli after Atomic Coffee closed last fall, underwent some renovations, including the addition of a new bar and a revamped overall look.

The taproom now has indoor seating for 48 and several tables outside on a sidewalk patio area.

While The Frothy Stache's name was thought up when employees realized everyone involved was a moustached craft beer fan, Lamb said the business is meant to be a relaxing hangout spot for anyone, bearded or not.

"We supply them with moustaches," he joked about the fake moustaches patrons can get when they order a beer flight or want to get in the whiskered spirit.
