Dunn Bros. to close 45th Street location in Fargo
FARGO—The last chance for customers to grab a cup of coffee from the Dunn Bros. at 1895 45th St. S. is Feb. 15. After nine years at the location, owners Meghann and Isaac Poku plan to close the store at the end of the business day.
Meghann Poku said rising rent costs made it difficult to turn a profit in the 45th Street Marketplace. Instead, they plan to devote all of their resources to the Dunn Bros. location at 1310 25th St. S.
"Twenty-fifth Street has kind of been our flagship store that has done really well. It's in a neighborhood where people frequent it as regulars," she said. "On 45th Street, we brought in people from the interstate, but not as many regulars as you'd see at the 25th Street store."
While she wished they could have made the 45th Street store work, she is excited to have more time to get involved in the community.
"When you run two stores, you can kind of get stretched thin," Poku said. "That's why I think running one store is actually nice because my husband and I will be able to do more in the community."
She also said the 25th Street location would soon get a new roaster after a fire recently destroyed their old one.
"The biggest thing is our fresh-roasted beans and we want to focus on that because we do it really, really well," Poku said.
Special events and coffee bean sales are planned at the 45th Street store Feb. 15 and the 25th Street store Feb. 16 to thank customers for their support.
"It's about that relationship with the community," she said. "The customers are what makes it worth it. It really is about connecting over a copy of coffee. Or tea. Not everyone is a coffee drinker."
A representative for Adams Development, owner of the 45th Street Marketplace, declined to comment about a possible new tenant for the space.
