FARGO—A women's clothing boutique will take over the downtown space where an art store has operated for nearly seven years.

Kindred People, which first opened in May 2015 in Alexandria, Minn., will open its second store in early to mid-July at 300 Broadway.

The women's clothing, accessories, shoes and gifts boutique is owned and operated by Kelly Falk and her mother, Marceia Andreasen.

Falk said they'll take over the Fargo storefront June 1 and get to work on a small fit-up to add dressing rooms.

Downtown art store Art Materials announced last week that it will close Saturday, May 27, to focus on online sales and its other store in Minneapolis. The storefront is owned by Kilbourne Group, which will lease it to Kindred People.

Falk said the store aims to bring unique fashion with good prices to the community. Kindred People features local and regional artisan gifts, such as jewelry and baskets, as well as fashion hand-picked by the owners at market shows around the country.

She said Fargo is a second home to her family, which includes several alumni of Minnesota State University Moorhead, including her mom. Falk also attended MSUM, graduating in May 2014.

"Around that time is when downtown Fargo started to really revive itself," she said. "We're excited to be back in that area and joining that."

Falk said Kindred People carries several product lines that aren't yet available in downtown Fargo, including Free People, Kut from the Kloth denim and BB Dakota.
