Indulgence Baking Co. moves into Sanctuary Events Center
FARGO—Indulgence Baking Co., which specializes in cupcakes, cheesecakes and scones, has moved into Sanctuary Events Center, 670 4th Ave. N. The company is owned by Kayla Houchin, a Fessenden, N.D., native who graduated from North Dakota State University three years ago. She spent the past few years teaching in Alaska and traveling abroad but wanted to return to Fargo to stay.
"I've always really liked Fargo," she said. "It's got a great community. It has a big population but a small town feel. There are so many people here who have been rooting for me and wanting to help me succeed."
Baking has been a lifelong passion for Houchin, who shared a photo of herself baking when she was 5 years old on her Facebook page, www.facebook.com/indulgencebakingco. When she was 16, she received her first stand mixer, and at 17 was asked to bake her first cake for a wedding.
"It's something I always did in the background," she said.
While at NDSU, Houchin baked treats for her classmates and raised money for the annual Bras on Broadway fundraiser by baking and selling her cupcakes.
"While I was traveling abroad, I realized I wanted to be in Fargo," she said. "I've always loved baking and knew I would regret it if I didn't try it (as a business)."
She's been baking for various customers since March, when she returned to Fargo. Indulgence Baking does not yet have a menu, but will bake just about anything a customer requests, including cupcakes, cheesecakes, scones, cakes, pies and muffins. The scones are also available at Cloud 9 Coffee in West Fargo.
Houchin delivers, sets up and tears down presentations, for items such as wedding cakes.
Indulgence Baking's space at Sanctuary is open by appointment only; customers make orders by calling (701) 341-8952 or emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org. The business is subleasing space in the building from Chef's Table Catering in Sanctuary's lower level.
