FARGO—The one and only Shaq will headline an eighth annual event that brings thought leaders to the community.

The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce announced Monday, July 17, that basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal, 45, will speak at the next installment of the Voices of Vision event on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

His presentation, "Prepare for Greatness," will tell attendees the athlete and businessman's thoughts on teamwork, business and other topics, according to a new release. He'll also participate in a moderated question-and-answer session.

The sold-out 2016 installment of Voices of Vision in Fargo brought former Navy SEAL Robert O'Neill, a member of SEAL Team Six that killed Osama bin Laden in 2011. Other past speakers of the series that debuted in 2010 include Rudy Giuliani, Terry Bradshaw and Jeb Bush.

O'Neal rose to fame in the early 1990s when he was drafted into the NBA in 1992. He played for several teams before retiring in 2011, including Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.

In addition to being recognized for his NBA accomplishments, O'Neal has worked as an NBA analyst, an actor, rapper and media personality.

In a written statement, Chamber President and CEO Craig Whitney said O'Neal was picked for the Voices of Vision series because of his accomplishments in the business world as well as on the basketball court.

"I was impressed to learn of O'Neal's achievements off court, ranging from his investments and endorsements deals, to ownership of numerous food chains, car washes and more, coupled with his educational and philanthropy," he wrote. "We're thrilled to bring this star to town, and know that our attendees will not be disappointed by this larger-than-life personality."

The 2017 Voices of Vision event with lunch included is scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Sanford Health Athletic Complex, 1300 17th Ave. N. Tickets are on sale now for $80 to $95 per person in advance at
