Downtown Fargo bead store to close next month

FARGO—A longtime bead and jewelry store will close its doors in downtown Fargo next month.

Owner Debra Quarve said Beads on Broadway, located on the lower level of the Black Building, 114 Broadway N., will close sometime in late December once the store finishes a liquidation sale it launched this summer. It opened in 2003.

Quarve also opened another bead, jewelry and women's clothing store, Bead Boutique, in West Fargo in 2008 and closed that store about four years ago.

She said she's closing Beads on Broadway because she's retiring. While she plans to still participate in art shows, Quarve said she and her husband, Mike Quarve, want more time to relax and winter in Arizona, things that are hard to do when running a retail operation.

Beads on Broadway will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday until it closes. She said the store will also ramp up its liquidation sales for Black Friday on Nov. 24.

She said customers have been "sad" to hear about her upcoming retirement, especially because the store is the last of its kind in the community, but she's looking forward to "that next phase in our life" and more free time.

Quarve said she and her husband will continue to live in south Fargo and be active in the community, at least when they're not traveling.

She said she'll miss a lot of the things she's done over the past 14 years, especially getting to share new ideas and techniques about jewelry.

"I always enjoy coming up with something new that's exciting to show and teach customers how to do," she said.
