What is that: Ortons station to be replaced by Holiday store

Moorhead - A rubble-strewn lot at 725 30th Ave. S. in Moorhead was recently home to an Ortons gas station that was closed and torn down over the course of a few days.

So, what’s going to happen to the property?

A new, larger service station will be built on the site and branded a Holiday station, according to Frank Orton, whose family business, Orton Oil Co., operates a string of service stations from headquarters in Walker, Minn.

The new gas station in Moorhead will have more pumps (including diesel), a car wash and it will offer more food options, said Orton, whose family has operated a gas station at the Eighth Street and 30th Avenue South location since the early 1980s.

Orton said he expects the new store will be open in early October.
