MOORHEAD — A bar in north Moorhead that promised to regularly feature live bands has closed.

Jerry's Original Music Club closed in January after operating about five months. Owner Scott Nelson said the venture "wasn't working out financially."

Nelson purchased the business at 1500 11th St. N. last May from the family of Jerry and Vera Jean Keogh, who opened Jerry's Bar there in 1960.

The bar had closed and reopened a few times in recent years, the first in 2005. It reopened and operated as Rockin' Pete's until closing again in the summer of 2007. It later re-opened and operated for a time as Rascal's Bar. At the time of the sale to Nelson, the bar was only open twice a month for special events such as drag shows.

According to a Forum story published in August, Nelson and business partner Steven Langstaff made several improvements to the bar, including new flooring, an expanded stage and new windows.

Nelson said it could reopen as a bar under new ownership. He also thinks the location would be well-suited for multiple retail spaces. The property is listed with NAI North Central in Fargo.
