$500,000 bail set for Mapleton man accused of rape
FARGO – Bail has been set at $500,000 for a Mapleton man accused of repeatedly raping a then-13-year-old girl he knew over the course of the past year.
Court documents state Cass County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Saturday to a home in Mapleton to take a report of a sexual assault.
The girl’s mother told investigators the girl, who is now 14, reported to her late Friday night that she had been sexually assaulted by Cordell Bryce Hipsak, 36.
She told deputies that she confronted Hipsak, who told her he was a “sick person” and needed help, and that he tried to convince her not to make a police report.
Court documents state Hipsak told deputies he was unsure of how many times he had raped the girl, but thought it had been going on “maybe a year.”
Hipsak was charged in Cass County District Court on Monday with one count of gross sexual imposition, a Class AA felony.
His bail was set at $500,000, and his next court appearance is set for July 23.
