Alice Burgad, 86, of Fargo, ND, passed away July 25, 2014, surrounded by her beloved family members at Sanford Palliative Medical Care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM at Church of the Ascension in Bismarck with Rev. Marvin Klemmer officiating. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 7:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a vigil service will begin at 4:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice was born March 2, 1928, at Strasburg, ND, and was the daughter of John and Angela (Miller) Silbernagel. She grew up on the family farm west of Strasburg and attended country school at the Winona School District. On November 4, 1947, Alice married Aloys at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Strasburg, ND. In 1952 Alice and Aloys purchased their farm located seventeen miles west of Strasburg. They retired from farming in 1986 and resided in Linton, ND, before relocating to Bismarck, ND in 2005. While living in Linton, Alice worked part-time at the Linton Hospital. Alice was able to spend her last two years in Fargo, ND.
Alice was noted as tremendous homemaker. Her remarkable work ethic supported the demanding labors on the family farm. She spent many years and countless hours in the dairy barn and seemed to have a love for the dairy cattle that served as the primary source of family income.
Family was very important to Alice as she spent countless hours with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Cooking was a special talent that Alice possessed and she loved sharing these dishes with others. Her homemade fudge was a special treat at every holiday gathering that was treasured by her children and grandchildren. During her retirement, Alice developed a love for watching her favorite television show Polka Spotlight and playing Bingo with friends.
Alice is survived by her children, Doris (Wayne) Johnson, Fargo, ND, Shirlin (Curt) Sand, Ellendale, ND, Arlen (Cindi) Burgad, on the homestead farm west of Strasburg, ND, Pam Ferderer, Bismarck, ND, Carla Zinnel, Bismarck, ND, and Allen (Lee) Burgad, Harwood, ND; eight grandchildren, Tara Ulmer, Nathan Sand, Travis and Courtney Burgad, Amber Potter, and Eric, Aaron, and Ashlee Burgad; six great-grandchildren, Riley and Reese Ulmer, Jaeger and Riggin Sand, Marley and Tayven Potter; one sister, Phyllis Malsom, Billings, MT; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Tschosik and Angie Hager; and two brothers-in-law, Eddie Kramer and John Burgad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aloys Burgad; her parents; three sisters, Tillie Mack, Cecelia Fischer, Rosemary Schwan; and six brothers, Joseph, Peter, John, Max, Felix, and Albert.
