Armed Fargo man arrested after early morning police chase that started in Moorhead

Ransi Thomas

MOORHEAD – The Clay County Sheriff’s Department arrested an armed man who tried to outrun a deputy early Friday, Chief Deputy Matt Siiro said.

Ransi Thomas, 21, of Fargo was booked into the Clay County Jail on several charges, including fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a pistol without a permit.

The deputy suspected Thomas of driving drunk and pulled him over on Highway 52 about 12:45 a.m., Siiro said. During the traffic stop, Thomas, who had a warrant for his arrest on a probation violation, drove off and the deputy pursued him for about a mile or less, Siiro said.

The deputy ended the chase for safety reasons after Thomas drove the wrong way on Interstate 94. Thomas later went into a ditch and crashed into a fence by the Moorhead campus of Rasmussen College, 1250 29th Ave. S.

Thomas, who was not hurt in the crash, fled on foot and was soon captured. Officers recovered a handgun at the scene, Siiro said.
