Clay Nagel resigns as Cobbers wrestling assistant coach
MOORHEAD - Concordia assistant wrestling coach Clay Nagel has resigned and will return to Frazee (Minn.) High School to teach.
Nagel was with the Cobbers for eight seasons, spending the first seven as head coach. He moved into an assistant role this past season as his son, Matt Nagel, took over as the program's head coach.
"It was a hard decision, I really liked Concordia," said Clay Nagel, who had been driving from Frazee to Concordia.
Clay Nagel said the around 100-mile roundtrip commute each day got to be too much. Matt Nagel said his dad will be missed as Concordia's recruiting coordinator.
"It's going to be a huge loss," Matt said. "I didn't really think of the impact until now it has come to reality."
Clay Nagel was the longtime head wrestling coach at Frazee before taking the job at Concordia.
Clay said he would be open to helping coach the Frazee team again.
"I would entertain being a volunteer or helping with the program," Clay Nagel said. "Whatever comes about I would be interested."
