Design plans complete for Cully’s Kids Cabin
Design plans have been completed for Cully’s Kids Cabin, a play area at the Children’s Hospital in the new Sanford Fargo Medical Center that is currently under construction.
The play area will include child life specialists, play and relaxation areas, an arts and crafts area, a kitchen projects and nutrition area, spaces for teens and toddlers, an alternative therapy area for immune-compromised patients, an all-star hockey shootout area, a green screen to create digital projects and a video and interactive area.
The project is made possible by a $1 million donation from the Cullen Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit corporation started by Matt and Bridget Cullen. The cabin-like design is reminiscent of the North Dakota and Minnesota outdoors and it will also have a hockey theme, influenced by Matt Cullen’s career in hockey.
Food bank to assist low-income veterans
The Great Plains Food Bank has received a grant to help build awareness of nutritional assistance programs with North Dakota’s military veterans.
North Dakota has over 56,000 veterans, some with a service-related disability, unemployed or working in a low wage position.
The state estimates 2,200 veterans are utilizing SNAP benefits, a lower rate of participation than many other states. The goal of the grant is to make sure that every veteran who qualifies for SNAP benefits is aware of the program and receives the needed assistance.
