The 34-year-old man, whose name was not released by police, was helping his wife, 28, prepare for her upcoming driver's test in the Delaware City Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot when he was hit on Sunday evening, said Delaware State Police spokesman Sergeant Paul Shavack.

The man lost his balance and fell after getting out of their 2006 Honda Civic to remove a traffic cone that had gotten lodged beneath the car's front end during his wife's test run, Shavack said.

His wife stepped on the accelerator, the car struck him and he was pinned underneath, he said.

A state police helicopter took the man to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Shavack said. His current condition was unknown.

Charges in the case have not been filed, although state troopers are continuing to investigate the incident.

Shavack could not confirm whether the woman proceeded to take or pass her driving test.
