Devils Lake's new Walmart opens Wednesday

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – The new Walmart Supercenter opens here Wednesday.

Officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The store will open at 8.

Despite a tight labor market, store manager Monica Greidl reported that “hiring has gone well.”

The new store now has about 200 employees, including 85 new hires. The rest came from the old store just down the road on U.S. Highway 2.

What’s new about the new store are a grocery store and an automotive shop providing oil changes. In a recent Facebook post, Greidl asked customers what they look forward to the most at the new Walmart. Ten of 15 people who commented answered groceries.

Devils Lake currently has two grocery stores, both owned by Leevers Foods, a Devils Lake-based family-run company.

The new Walmart will be open 24 hours except for 12 hours on Sundays to comply with the state’s “blue law,” according to Greidl.
