Forum editorial: Hanson, Wentz for W. Fargo

West Fargo has made spectacular progress, in part because of good leadership. Those leaders include incumbent City Commissioners Duane Hanson and Mark Wentz. Hanson, seeking a second term, and Wentz, seeking his first full term, should remain on the commission.

Hanson’s measured and straightforward approach to issues underscores his comprehensive knowledge of his city. His portfolio includes water. He is realistic about the challenges facing the city, including a new water treatment plant, but is open to options, such as the possibility of an equal water partnership with Fargo. He has become a genuine expert on the city’s water needs, and his work will be needed as West Fargo moves toward a new treatment and delivery system.

Wentz was appointed a few months ago to fill the unexpired term of a commissioner who moved away, and in that short time has grown into the job. He understands that serving as an at-large commissioner is not necessarily about personal priorities or one’s address, but rather what is best for the entire city.

Both men grasp the value of the Fargo-Moorhead diversion as the only way to provide long-term flood protection; both support the plan within the context of its potential impacts on West Fargo. Both support the sales tax increase on the ballot.

West Fargo voters would do well to keep them in office.
