Free compost, wood chips available in Fargo

The city of Fargo will give away compost and wood chips from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday and Thursday through June 3 and from 7 a.m. to noon this Saturday.

Fargo residents are eligible for one free yard each of compost and wood chips. Residents with bags and cans must load their own materials. City crews will help load pickups and trailers.

Proof of residency is required to claim the free materials (utility bill, driver's license, etc.) The materials are west of the household hazardous waste facility at 606 43½ St. N. A small pile of compost is also located next to the scale house at the landfill, 4501 7th Ave. N.

Before and after the free giveaway, residents can purchase compost for $10 per yard and wood chips for $8 per yard.
