Leonard Lorne Sellheim

D.O.D. 7-27-2014

Leonard was born in Hensel, ND to John and Mary Sellheim on April 20, 1929. He died at Boswell Hospital in Sun City, AZ. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Opal. Also surviving are his daughters; Lynette Hooge (David) and Kerri Sellheim, both, in Glendale, AZ.; and son Kim (Theresa) of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Also, surviving in North Dakota are his two sisters; Joy Ferguson of Grafton and Darlene Bjerke of Park River; and one brother, Richard (Irene) of Adams. He was preceded in death by five brothers, and two sisters.

Leonard had a long career as a heavy equipment operator and was a proud, 35 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 49, headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. He and Opal retired in their early 60's and moved to Fremont, CA where they assisted Opal's brother in the management of Besaro Mobile Home Park. Three years later, they moved to the Phoenix area where they lived up until his time of death. Leonard worked in ND for Olander Contracting during the summer months until age 79, when he developed heart disease.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Glendale, AZ where memorial services will be held August 16, 2014 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, Opal believes that he would be pleased if you sent gifts to the National Democratic Party of which he was a life-long supporter. West Resthaven Funeral Home in Glendale, AZ is handling the arrangements.

Leonard's beloved dog, Sputz, misses him greatly, as does his family.
