Letter: How many more lives need to be lost on roads?

When will it be enough? How many lives will be lost to careless driving before we start to really pay attention on the road?

In recent months, there have been too many deaths due to recklessness behind the wheel or excessive speed. Now a young toddler in Minot, N.D., is the latest tragedy – caused by a hit-and-run driver.

I am a stay-at-home mom who gets in the car maybe twice a week with my own young ones. Multiple drivers tailgate me each and every time. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is or where I am driving. I absolutely refuse to speed, but speed is the norm. We are all in such a hurry. For what? So we can hurry up and die? I bet the little girl who passed recently and her parents wished she could have led a nice and slow life.

We just need to stop. We need to stop checking our devices when we drive, fiddling with our sound systems too much, and we need to slow down. Before we know it, this life will be over, and we will have wondered why we had rushed to the pearly gates.
