Letter: More aware of North Dakota Jewish history
Fargo ND 101 5th Street North 58102

My son Barry, former Lake Region student and University of North Dakota graduate, sent me Jack Zaleski’s June 29 column on the Rachel Calof play at Devils Lake, N.D. We had read the autobiography and planned to see the show in 2011 in New York, but the performance at the Fringe Festival was cursed by a terrific storm and was canceled. We have visited the cemetery at Garske, N.D. – my husband is from Devils Lake, and we have family there. Saw the video trailer – looks very interesting. Looks like I missed out again!

Barry did some research while at Lake Region about Jews coming to the north-central part of the country, a phenomena that most of us – even Jews like myself with Eastern European backgrounds – were not aware of. Thank you for writing this story.
