Letter: Slam on public TV is out of bounds
I want to comment on the recent cartoon panning public television. I believe I am among many Forum readers for whom public television offerings are the best, most interesting and most constructive things on television.
My husband and I live happily without cable or a dish. We enjoy Prairie Public’s variety of regular offerings, plus their three extra channels available over the air.
Aside from local news shows on the Fargo commercial stations, which have their various strengths, I find little of interest on commercial television. Much of what is offered there, both over the air and cable, is “food that does not satisfy.”
In 1961, in a notable speech, Newton Minow said that commercial television is a “vast wasteland.” Sadly, still true.
