Letter: Special interests, greed win the day
Dennis Walaker and his minions on the Fargo City Commission should be ashamed of themselves. Once again, they’ve sacrificed the concerns and flat-out objections of another entire neighborhood for the sake of their own special interests and greed. (North Fargo housing development story, Forum, Aug. 5.)
According to Commissioner Melissa Sobolik, “This may not be the answer that you wanted, and I do believe that the process failed you.” I cannot fathom the audacity of Sobolik to make this statement as the commission voted 5-0 to approve the development.
Just to be clear, while Sobolik thinks the process failed these residents of north Fargo, she thinks “we do need to send a message to developers that they have to meet with the neighborhood early on.” Approving this unwanted and unsolicited encroachment on their neighborhood is no way to send a message.
The fact is that beyond the tax dollars these 59 new homes will generate to fund the city of Fargo’s future follies, none of the city commissioners, nor their quarterback, give a tinker’s damn about these existing taxpayers.
You can’t tell me there aren’t 59 existing single-family lots available for sale elsewhere in the F-M area.
