Meyer took on multiple roles during his time in Jamestown. He led the Jamestown High School boys basketball program to four state championships (1976, 78, 82, 87) and eventually coached Jamestown College’s men’s basketball program to an NDCAC championship in 1994. He ended his stellar career with 523 wins.

The Rugby native spent time coaching in Kenmare before making the trek to Jamestown.

Meyer built an impressive resume throughout his life. He’s a six-time Class A coach of the year and was honored twice as as coach of the year by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscaster and Sportswriters Association. He’s a member of the Minot State and National High School Coaches Association Halls of Fame.

The gymnasium at Jamestown High School is named Jerry Meyer Arena in his honor.
