Luella Martha Hanson, 91, Detroit Lakes, MN, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Oak Crossing, in Detroit Lakes.
Luella was born on February 17, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Teigland) Peterson at their farm near Blabon, ND. She attended Riverside Country School, Blabon Public School, and graduated from Mayville High School in 1940.
On September 22, 1940, Luella was united in marriage to Colman Hanson. They made their first home in Blabon, farmed in Sherbrooke Township for several years, and then returned to Blabon where they raised their family. Luella was a cook for the school, and was an active member of the Blabon Lutheran Church. She served as Ladies Aid President, a Sunday School teacher, participated in the ladies choir and was also an active member of the Happy Homemakers Club. In 1959, the Hansons moved to Hope, ND, where they were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church (formerly Blabon Lutheran Church). In 1968, they moved to Lake Sallie near Detroit Lakes, MN, owning and operating their resort, Colmans Cabins. Luella also worked for Swift Turkey Plant and later worked at Mayvilles Luther Memorial Home as a CNA, as well as caring for her elderly mother. Colman passed away in 1999 and she remained at their Lake Sallie home until moving to the Park Manor in Detroit Lakes. Luella was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes and recently had become a resident at Oak Crossing.
Luella had many interests, and she especially enjoyed reading, sewing, baking Norwegian treats for her family and friends, working the Prizeword Pete crossword puzzle, as well as tending to her flowers and plants.
Luella is survived by: two sons, Colan "CT" Hanson, Fargo; Cordell (Mary Beth) Hanson, Bismarck; two daughters, Dorothy (Reed) Satrom of Detroit Lakes; Carol Hanson-Berg of Detroit Lakes; son-in-law, Elwood (Mary) Dronen, West Fargo; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Colman; daughter, Faye Dronen; granddaughter, Susan Dronen; three brothers: Avner, Harold and David Peterson; and her sister, Melinda French.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1401 Madison Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN with Pastor Jillene Gallatin, officiating.
VISITATION: Friday, August 1, 2014 from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at West-Kjos Funeral Home, 900 Summit Avenue, Detroit Lakes, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
INTERMENT: Richville Village Cemetery, Richville, MN
