Man linked to Breckenridge case arrested for stolen property
Christopher Ryan McCourt, 33, was charged Friday in Cass County District Court with theft of property, a Class C felony.
McCourt, who is on probation, was approached by officers from the Cass County Drug Task Force and North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation on Thursday after it was determined he was at Thrifty White Pharmacy around the time of the standoff, court documents say.
The officers reported finding two prescription bottles from Thrifty White Pharmacy in McCourt’s vehicle bearing the name Roxie LaFromboise and dated July 16, the day of the standoff. The bottles were confirmed stolen from the store by Breckenridge Police Chief Nate Harder.
McCourt admitted in an interview with officers that he took bottles that did not belong to him, court documents say.
The alleged robbery escalated into much more than that Wednesday due to rumors that an armed man was still inside the building after customers and staff had evacuated.
That led officers from multiple local agencies to surround the building with their guns drawn for three hours, until a SWAT team swept the building and found no one inside.
Harder said he expects additional charges to be filed against McCourt in Minnesota.
