Minnesotan dies in construction zone accident on I-29 near Hillsboro

HILLSBORO, N.D. – A Minneapolis man was killed in a rollover accident Monday evening in a construction zone on Interstate 29 just north of Hillsboro.

The victim, Elyas Abdulkadir Ali, 22, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet HHR south at about 7:45 p.m. about four miles north of Hillsboro, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported. The section of highway had been restricted to one lane.

Witnesses told investigators the driver was driving fast and passing other vehicles on the shoulder. The driver lost control while passing a semi, entered the ditch and rolled several times before coming to rest on four wheels.

Ali, who investigators said was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
