Neighbors: Fargo woman wonder what happened to Coca-Cola carousels

Michele Thomaier, Fargo, is trying “to uncover the fate of one of my childhood delights,” the Coke carousel.

“In the early 1960s, when I was about 4 or 5,” Michele writes, “the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. would bring a small carousel to the grocery stores. I remember it having four horses on it, the black one being my favorite. I have often wondered what happened to it.

“Those were my first horses which started a lifetime love affair with equines,” she says. “I got my first living breathing one at age 14, and 40 years later still own a quarter horse.

“My mother remembers giving me many rides on that little carousel.”

The bottling company didn’t respond to Neighbors’ inquiry about this, so Neighbors is giving you readers a whirl at solving this carousel issue.

Big month

Next month is special, because there is a phenomenon about it which you’ll never see again.

Word on it comes from Jack Schuh, (no address given), who notes that this August has five Fridays, five Saturdays and five Sundays.

How often does this occur in a month?

Once in every 823 years.

Or about as often as the Vikings win the Super Bowl.
