Post 2 claims win at Central Plains Regional baseball tournament
FARGO – Fargo Post 2 defeated Rapid City 14-7 during the opening round of the American Legion Division I Central Plains Regional baseball tournament Thursday at Jack Williams Stadium.
Post 2 (33-18) advances to play St. Cloud Chutes at 8 p.m. today in the winner’s bracket.
Rapid City (41-21) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning scoring the runs on two hits and three Post 2 errors.
Post 2 battled back and eventually tied the game 4-4 in the third inning scoring the runs on an error, a RBI single by Lincoln Voss and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Lein.
Post 2 took a lead in the fourth inning plating a run when Carter Thompson connected for an RBI double that scored Gunnar Linstaedt.
Three more runs came Post 2’s way in the fifth. Linstaedt and Seth Tollefson each provided RBI base hits in the inning.
The victory is Post 2’s first at a regional tournament since 1992 when the team won a region championship and advanced to the American Legion World Series.
Rapid City plays Omaha PI Midwest at 1 p.m. today in a loser-out game.
