Randall Edison, 63, Milnor, North Dakota died Thursday, July 24 2014, at Fargo, North Dakota, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Randall James Edison was born October 28, 1950, in Fargo to David and Karen (Schutt) Edison. He grew up in Milnor and graduated from Milnor High School in 1968. He attended NDSSS and MSU. In 1971, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism.

Randy was united in marriage to Carol Nelson on September 20, 1972, at Milnor Lutheran Church. They lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where Randy completed his military service at Fort Bragg. Upon returning to Milnor, he worked at Edison Motors, the family Ford dealership.

Randy began working at Bobcat in Gwinner in 1987. A loyal union man, Randy was a member of PACE and later United Steel Workers Local 560. He was also a state and local union officer, serving as Financial Secretary Treasurer of USW Local 560 and as Vice President and Alternate for the North Dakota AFL-CIO Executive Council. After retiring from Bobcat in 2007, Randy was instrumental in forming the first SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees) Chapter in North Dakota and was currently serving as its President.

Randy was a member of Smith-Thune American Legion Post 148 and was also a life member of Gibbon Miller VFW Post 9069, where he served as Post Commander. He also served as District Commander of the VFW. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was currently serving as the President of the Milnor City Council.

Randy was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports.

Randy is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Heather Edison; grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, Jonah and Micah Anderson and Trevor and Travis Smith; mother, Karen Edison, all of Milnor; brothers, David (Betty), Apple Valley, MN; Brent (Jaci), Bismarck, Lex (LaDawn), Chaska, MN; and Chris (Carrie), Bismarck; one sister, Lisa Edison-Smith, Fargo; brother-in-law, Terry Nelson, Littleton, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, David; paternal grandparents, John and Maggie Edison and maternal grandparents, Arnold and Hannah Schutt.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Milnor Lutheran Church. His funeral will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 starting at 2:30 p.m. also at Milnor Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Milnor Lutheran Cemetery.
