Redskins sign former NDSU TE Veldman

Free agent tight end Matt Veldman signed with the Washington Redskins, who waived defensive end Doug Worthington.

Veldman entered the NFL as a college free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, and he also spent time on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had two stints with the Detroit Lions. He appeared in one game for the Lions last season, making his NFL debut at Minnesota in Week 17.

Veldman, 6-7, 255, played at North Dakota State from 2008-11. He had 49 career receptions for 584 yards and seven touchdowns in 41 career games.
