Review: Fargo Brewing rolls out barrels of fun
FARGO – It’s a busy time at Fargo Brewing Co. The beer makers have been brewing up a sudsy storm in preparation for Friday’s Fargo Beer Festival and the brewery’s own anniversary party next weekend. On top of that, the crew will soon start canning its porter, Sodbuster.
As if that weren’t enough, Fargo Brewing has also tapped into Oktoberfest with two new seasonal pours. The company is rolling out the barrels of fun with O-Fest and Bent River, two tasty fall cold ones that should become staples in the brewing portfolio.
While O-Fest seems the most seasonal, it’s also destined to find a permanent home at Würst Bier Hall in downtown Fargo. Malty with a caramel touch, this traditional Märzen will be a popular drink not only during Oktoberfest, but all through winter as it pairs well with food.Don’t let the slight sweetness fool you. With a 6.3 percent alcohol by volume, O-Fest has more punch than many of the other Fargo Brews currently on tap.Among those would be Bent River, another recently tapped cold one. The Helles-style lager is a lighter flavor for Oktoberfest and with only a 17 IBU (used to rate bitterness), it’s one of Fargo Brews lightest barley pops yet.With a slightly crisp finish, the gold pour comes at just the right time, a fitting beer for a fading summer, but not with the body a craft beer drinker wants in a fall or winter brew. Indeed, Bent River serves as a fine introduction to craft beers for those coming from domestic pilsners and as such should find a home on taps around town for quite some time.
