Severed phone line repaired after several hours, restoring 911 services

VALLEY CITY, N.D. - A damaged fiber optic line about 10 miles west of Valley City was repaired early Thursday night, according to a release from the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center.

The line was severed around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and all local telephone lines and 911 services were cut off. 911 calls made in the area from cellphones were rerouted to Bismarck, and landline 911 calls were answered in Jamestown through the use of other seven-digit emergency lines.

County officials learned the line had been fixed and telephone services restored by 6:44 p.m. Thursday.
