Sidney F. Morton
Age 72 of Moorhead passed away suddenly on June 11, 2014. He was born July 22, 1941, in Barberton, Ohio to A. Sidney Morton and Roberta (Garton) Morton. Sidney attended schools in Greensboro, NC and Richmond, VA before graduating from Concord High School, Concord, MA in 1959. Sidney attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Boston University. In 1963 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served at the Army Arctic Test Center, Fort Greely, AK, as a cinematographer. He was honorably discharged on August 11, 1965.
Sidney worked as a photographer and darkroom technician for Alessandro Macone, Inc. and for the Concord Public Schools as an Electronics Technician before relocating to Moorhead to accept a job as Instructional Communications Specialist at Moorhead State University, now Minnesota State University, Moorhead. After 30 years working with various departments, designing sound systems, electronic music studios and other similar projects, and providing support for most campus departments, he retired in 2002. Sidney served on the Moorhead Citizens Advisory Council and had an active role in Boy Scout Troop 638 for several years. He served on the Fargo Theater Board sharing his electronics expertise during their major renovation. He also was active in the Unitarian Universalist Church, leading the Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer and working on the Building Committee. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, hiking and camping and reading. His kindness, patience and twinkling eyes will be missed by all who knew him. Sidney leaves his wife of 48 years, Ruth, his daughter Andrea of Somerville, MA and his son Jacob of Brookline, MA, brothers A. Kent (Marilyn) of Richmond, VA, Gregg (Betty Ann) of Downers Grove, IL, sister Kristin Curtis of Newfoundland, PA and many nieces and nephews. Sidney was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Carl Curtis. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 121 S. 9th St. in Fargo. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Unitarian Church or your favorite charity in Sidneys name.
