Thomas Hanson

Thomas Fritz Hanson passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 near Leonard, ND at the age of 53.

Tom was born February 20, 1961 in Karlsrue, Germany to Rodger and Ursula Hanson. When Tom was three, Rodger left the U.S. service and their family moved back to Milnor, ND, where Tom attended Milnor public school and graduated with honors in 1979. While in school he participated in many activities, sports and clubs with basketball being his passion. Tom was also the first recipient of the Academic Athlete's Award. Tom went to college at NDSU and was a Bison fan his whole life, where he graduated with a bachelors and masters degree.

In 1991 he met the love of his life, Karen Day. Together they raised Karen's two children Marcie and Kris. Tom loved spending time with his grandkids and two cats, Batman and Diamond. He enjoyed traveling and growing up at South Turtle Lake. He also loved to golf and was a Minnesota Viking fan.

He will be greatly missed by his mother, Ursula Hanson; his love, Karen Day; two sisters, Patty (Todd) Gilje, Crookston, MN and Tammy (Marwood) Klein, Forman, ND; six grandchildren; three nephews, Dylan Gilje, Milwaukee, WI, Dustin Gilje, Milnor, ND, and Dawson Kaufmann, Milnor, ND; one niece, Coley Gilje, Crookston, MN; one great-niece, Jessie Gilje, Enderlin, ND; and two uncles, George Thompson and Bernd (Angela) Mueller.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodger; his grandparents, Ed and Hilda Hanson and Charolette and George Debschutz; and several aunts and uncles.

A prayer service will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014 starting at 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Milnor, ND. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014 also at United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Milnor.
