Three Minnesotans killed in Canada plane crash

A plane crash on Chappie Lake in Ontario, Canada, took the lives of three Minnesota residents, Canadian authorities and the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday.

The three occupants of the aircraft were identified by Canadian authorities as Nickolas Ivar Rajala, 41, and Teresa Nicole Rajala, 40, both of Cohasset, and Lynn Marie Bohanan, 37, of Grand Rapids. The cause of the crash was not immediately available.

The Canadian Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident, Itasca County sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Police were called Friday after the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received a signal from an emergency locator transmitter on Chappie Lake, an inland lake on the Aulneau Peninsula of Lake of the Woods. Search and rescue crews responded and found a downed Cessna 182 aircraft. Two occupants were deceased and a third was seriously injured and succumbed to her injuries despite efforts by responders, according to a report from the Ontario Provincial Police News Portal.
