Veggie Barn moves, opens second site
FARGO – One of the area’s oldest farmer’s markets will do business from a new parking lot starting in early July.
Schlenker also plans to open a second location known as the Veggie Bus at 1302 3rd Ave. N. across University Drive from the Arc Attic Thrift Store.
This is the sixth season for Schlenker. She grows the organic produce she sells on a farm east of Glyndon, Minn.
The cold spring and wet conditions have slowed this year’s growing season. Schlenker hopes to have strawberries for sale in early July with other fruits and vegetables available later in the month.
Schlenker also sells “create it your way CSAs,” which are community supported agriculture shares. Members will be able to visit the Veggie Barn or Veggie Bus and pick out what they want included in their veggie box each week.
“You don’t get that element of surprise that some people look for, but there are others who say they don’t like eggplants or beets,” Schlenker said. “Food is so outrageously priced that every morsel should be in a belly and not anywhere near a garbage disposal.”
Members have two options. One is to receive $35 worth of produce for $25 per week and the other is $20 worth for $15 per week.
Opening dates and hours of operation for the Bus and Barn have yet to be determined. For updates and more information, visit facebook.com/ladybugacresproduce.
