Von Pinnon: Eight new members join Forum Readers Board

Meet the eight new members of The Forum's Readers Board, a group of area people who advise and provide feedback to us.

These eight join four returning members whose terms expire in June.


Members stay on for a year, but terms are staggered by a half-year. The paper's community sounding board chooses its own successors.

We want to first thank departing members whose terms expired in December: Mary Batcheller, David Buchanan, Kirk Carlson, Arlene Mickley, Danielle Teigen, Andrew Thorson and Denis Tim.

New members are:

&#8226Timothy Dirks, 48, of Fargo, is the director of Fargo Public Library. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in library and information science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as well as a master's degree of public administration from the University of Colorado-Denver. He moved here in 2008 with his wife and three daughters.

&#8226Peter Fendt, 58, of Fargo, owns Quality Bakery with his wife, Marcene. He also serves as a member of Valley Water Rescue. Fendt was born in Germany but has lived in Fargo since age 2. He has two daughters.

&#8226Grant Hagen, 25, of Fargo, is the marketing manager for Quaker Steak & Lube. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He grew up in southwest Minnesota and has lived in the area for more than five years.

&#8226Susan J. Johnson, 67, of Fargo, is a retired speech therapist and teacher. She earned her bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University. She recently moved here from Valley City, N.D., with her husband, Stan. The couple has three sons and five grandchildren.

&#8226Brent Larson, 57, of Moorhead, is a high school English teacher for Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Public Schools. He is married and has two children attending college. He has lived in the area all his life.

&#8226Jay Nelson, 54, of Fargo, is a real estate agent for Konrad Olson Commercial Real Estate. He is married and has lived in the area most of his life.

&#8226Carmen Wald, 26, of Fargo is a technical writer for Appareo Systems. She earned degrees in English and journalism from NDSU. She is married and has lived in the area for more than seven years.

&#8226Brenda Warren, 59, of West Fargo, is director of procurement for National Hospitality Services. She attended college at Concordia College, Santa Monica (Calif.) College and Minnesota State Community and Technical College. Warren was born in Ada, Minn., and has lived in the area most of her life. She is married and has three children.

Returning members are:

&#8226Kirby Anderson, 56, of Fergus Falls, Minn., is a manager of customer service projects at Otter Tail Power Co. He earned a master's degree in business administration from MSUM. He is engaged, the father of two and has lived in the area his entire life.

&#8226Aaron Feickert, 24, of Fargo, earned degrees in mathematics and physics at NDSU, where he now works as a graduate teaching and research assistant. He is single and has lived in the area most of his life.

&#8226Kevin Tobosa, 38, of Fargo, works in marketing and creative strategy at Sanford Health. He is married, the father of two and has lived in the area for 23 years.

&#8226Betsy Vinz, 71, of Moorhead, earned a bachelor's degree in American studies from MSUM. She is married, the mother of two daughters and has lived in the area for 44 years.
