HAWLEY - Sure, Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer, but the annual Hawley Rodeo Fest is always a surefire sign of the season.

The actual rodeo is held the first full weekend in June, but as the event has grown more popular, it has spread out over a week.

Things kick off Saturday with a breakfast on the farm at Kasin Farms, 4271 230th St. S., Hawley, from 7 a.m. to noon, with a kids pedal tractor pull starting at 9 a.m.

Sunday features a cowboy church service at 10 a.m. at the Hawley Rodeo Grounds on Hwy. 10, followed by a benefit horse show at 11 a.m.

Cowgirls take center stage at the Little Miss Hawley Pageant at 7 p.m. Monday in the Hawley High School auditorium, 714 Joseph St.

Tuesday welcomes some riders with the Jackpot Team Rodeo at 6:30 p.m. at the Rodeo Grounds, followed by a variety show at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

A health fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Hawley Community Center, 418 Main St.

A pet show will be held at 3:30 p.m., June 5, at the Hawley Public Library, 422 Hartford St.

The activities really heat up on June 6 with a pitchfork steak fondue from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center, followed by the first night of the rodeo, starting at 7 p.m. at the Rodeo Grounds.

Things get started early on June 7, with a 5K run starting at 9 a.m. (registration at 8) at Hawley High School. A horseshoe tournament also starts at 9 a.m. at Riverbend Park on hwy. 10.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Hawley Street Fair will be held near City Hall, 305 6th St., overlapping with the classic car and motorcycle show.

At noon, the Hawley JCs host a cookout at City Hall, while Hawley Fire Relief hosts water wars to help cool down.

After lunch, get some dessert at the pie and ice cream social at 3 p.m. at the Hawley Senior Center, 923 5th St., or check out the kiddie parade along Sixth Street.

A classic car cruise fires up at 3:30 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by the Rodeo Fest Parade, both along Sixth Street.

Then at 7 p.m., the final night of the rodeo jumps out of the chute at the Rodeo Grounds.
