‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star sentenced to 8 years in fraud case

Apollo Nida, husband of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Phaedra Parks, was sentenced to in a Georgia court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to mail, wire and bank fraud charges in May, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Nida.who was arrested in January, faced up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.

According to the AJC, the reality television personality allegedly defrauded a number of individuals, along with financial institutions and government agencies, by opening a bogus debt-collection agency in order to gain personal information. Nida then allegedly stole people's identities and gained access to unclaimed funds, such as refunds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, stolen U.S. treasury checks and refunds from faked income-tax returns.

Gayla St. Julien, Nida's co-conspirator, was sentenced to 61 months in April.
