Roots on the Red sets lineup for two-day festival at Bluestem this September

MOORHEAD – More than 20 bluegrass and folk artists will perform here over two days this summer during the Roots on the Red Festival, promoter Jade Presents announced Tuesday.

The event will serve as the finale for the 2014 Bluestem Summer Concert Series, and is scheduled to start at noon on Sept. 6 and 7 at the Bluestem Amphitheater, 801 50th Ave. SW, in Moorhead.

Roots on the Red will kick off Saturday, Sept. 6 with performances by the T&L Schwartz Family, Diane Miller & The Roots Band, Boots, Gabe Douglas, The Johnson Family Band, Head for the Hills, Elevate Rock School, Baskery, William Elliott Whitmore, Jeremy Messersmith and the Steep Canyon Rangers. The headliner for this day wasn’t announced Tuesday.

The final day of performances on Sunday, Sept. 7 will be headlined by Steve Earle and Shawn Colvin, with sets by Tucker’d Out, Barbara Jean, The Lowest Pair, The Boys ‘n’ the Barrels, Cornmeal, Monroe Crossing, Guy Davis, Joe Pug, Mike Doughty and JD McPherson.

The recently announced acts, along with others expected to announce soon, will perform on the main amphitheater stage and a smaller gazebo stage on the Bluestem grounds. A third “Homegrown Stage” will feature regional acts.

Vendors, local food trucks and family-friendly activities also are on tap for the Roots on the Red Festival.

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday and are available for $30 for a one-day general admission pass, $50 for a two-day general admission pass or $75 for two-day reserved tickets. Children 12 and younger will be admitted for free.
