MeritCare receives organ donation honor

MeritCare received a federal award for its high rate of life-saving organ donations, becoming one of 93 hospitals in the nation to be recognized four years in a row.

MeritCare received a federal award for its high rate of life-saving organ donations, becoming one of 93 hospitals in the nation to be recognized four years in a row.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave MeritCare its Medal of Honor for Organ Donation. The medal is awarded to hospitals that achieve a donation rate of at least 75 percent over a year.

MeritCare also was recognized for increasing transplants from deceased donors by 20 percent. Nationally, more than 100,000 people await organ transplants.
