WEST FARGO – The city of West Fargo could be getting into the golf course business and plans a public meeting tonight so people can learn more about the project.

West Fargo officials have been talking with the Tom Lehman Group about developing an 18-hole municipal golf course in the city’s southwest side.

Mayor Rich Mattern says in these tough economic times, not everyone thinks it’s a good idea to be building a golf course.

Mattern says one misconception is that the city would be responsible for building the course.

He says a land developer will build the course and pay for it through special assessments to people who build homes along the course.

The city of West Fargo would be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the golf course if it’s built.

Tonight’s meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cheney Middle School.

Representatives of the Tom Lehman Group will be there to talk about the proposed course, which would be built west of Sheyenne Street and south of Interstate 94.

Lehman is a professional golfer from Alexandria, Minn.
