The North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon plans to evacuate additional residents Tuesday.
Administrator Mark Johnson said Sunday about 40 basic-care residents will go to the Legacy Place in Valley City and another 34 plan to stay with family.
On Saturday, staff from the home near the Sheyenne River transported 35 nursing home residents to St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton, N.D.
Those residents were relocated first because they are more vulnerable, Johnson said.
The evacuation, which took three to five hours, went smoothly because staff had been planning all week, he said.
The Veterans Home is on high ground and likely not in danger of flooding, but administrators wanted to take every precaution, he said.
Ideally, residents will be away for a week, but it’s possible they may be gone for 10 to 14 days, Johnson said.
