CASSELTON, N.D. – A pickup truck crashed into a washout on a township road in Cass County on Friday night, injuring the driver and three passengers.

The accident happened about 10 p.m., two miles east and three miles north of Casselton.

The driver, identified in a news release as 25-year-old Joshua Werp of Fargo, left the roadway and crashed into the washout. He was unfamiliar with the area and failed to see the washout, the release said.

Werp was airlifted to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, where he was treated and released. The other passengers were transported to MeritCare by ambulance with various injuries. The airbag deployed, but seat belts were not being used.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department said many roads in the county are washed out or have water flowing over them, causing dangerous conditions.
