The contractor hired to remove sandbags left behind from Fargo’s flood battle will also handle the job in greater Cass County, the Army Corps of Engineers said.

Spruce Valley Corp. of Middle River, Minn., was awarded a $1.25 million contract to pick up bags in the county. The job is expected to take 45 days.

As of Monday, the company and corps hadn’t held a pre-construction meeting to set a start date, but Spruce Valley project coordinator Rodney Olson said he expects the work to begin shortly.

The county used 2.5 million to 3 million sandbags in its flood fight. The county will recycle the sand for construction projects.

Spruce Valley previously signed a $1 million contract with the corps to remove sandbags from streets and backyards in Fargo. Crews have completed sandbag removal along streets and are now in backyards.
