Authorities have ruled that a fire that destroyed an Oakport Township home during the flood fight was the result of arson.
Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said today that the fire marshal investigated the March 27 blaze at 5704 Elm St. and determined that it was a suspicious fire that was intentionally set.
Firefighters were unable to get to the home because of the floodwaters in the community north of Moorhead. The home, owned by Walter Lee Gray and rented out at the time, was a total loss.
Authorities do not have any suspects at this time and are offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the responsible parties, Bergquist said.
