The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers anticipates finishing sandbag removal and beginning its final pass today in Fargo.

Any sandbags left on eligible properties should be placed on the curb to be picked up by the beginning of the final sweep today, according to a news release issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

About 2.5 million sandbags were placed in Fargo during the flood fight. As of the close of business Monday, 63 percent of the sandbags, or 31,404 tons of sand, were removed.

The corps awarded a $1 million contract April 24 for the removal of sandbags in Fargo to Spruce Valley Corp. of Middle River, Minn. The sandbag contractor began work April 27.
